Laser Tattoo Removal

Do you want to remove a tattoo for personal or professional reasons?

While laser tattoo removal is a safe and effective treatment, you may still wonder if the procedure will be difficult or painful.

At Columbus Plastic Surgery, serving Columbus, GA, our surgeons are committed to helping you completely get rid of that pesky tattoo you’ve been unhappy with.

How Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work?

Laser tattoo removal is a safe and effective way to remove unwanted tattoos of all colors on any skin tone. Our state-of-the-art laser removes a tattoo by breaking up the ink molecules in your skin with a light beam.

The tattoo removal process is done in stages to help avoid scars on the skin or unsightly marks left on your body. The number of laser treatments you require will depend on your tattoo's size, the density of the ink, and the colors used. Black ink, for instance, is typically easier to remove than red ink, which often requires additional appointments for total removal.

Our advanced lasers help to break the ink apart faster, creating smaller particles that are easier for your body to remove.

What Are the Benefits of Laser Tattoo Removal?

Less Pain

The average amount of tattoo removal treatments it takes to begin seeing results is about 5-10 sessions. Even after 10 tattoo removal sessions, there is no guarantee of complete clearance. Our enlighten® laser by Cutera® uses advanced laser technology to achieve tattoo removal in about half the time it may take for traditional treatment.

Less Damage

While some tattoo removal options result in marks left on the skin or scarring, our laser uses high peak power and ultra-short pulse duration to effectively break up ink molecules without resulting in damage to your skin. Because laser treatments only target the pigment in your tattoo, removal is considered safer than dermabrasion and excision.

More Effective

Tattoo removal with enlighten technology works by directing the laser on the unwanted tattoo and removing specific colors in your skin first. Addressing stubborn pigment as a first step will allow patients living in Columbus, GA, or the surrounding areas to begin experiencing a noticeable difference sooner. Our laser lifts stubborn pigment using three wavelengths and short pulse durations that won't damage your skin.

Laser Tattoo FAQ

Does laser tattoo removal hurt?

Like getting a tattoo, laser tattoo removal treatment may sting and cause some minor discomfort. Numbing cream may be used to minimize discomfort. Pain from tattoo removal can last up to 48 hours and will gradually subside after treatment.

Will laser tattoo removal leave a scar?

Scarring from laser tattoo removal is one of the top concerns patients have before going through treatment. When proper care is utilized and patient aftercare instructions are followed closely, scarring is uncommon. However, any pre-existing scar from when the original tattoo was applied will remain. Caring properly for blisters after treatment and refraining from picking at your scars will also help prevent scarring from happening.

How many sessions will it take for my tattoo to be completely gone?

The recommended number of sessions for most patients getting their tattoos removed is between 6 and 8 separate laser sessions. For larger tattoos, it can take up to 10 sessions to remove the tattoo entirely. Treatments are scheduled 6 to 8 weeks apart to give your skin enough time to heal before the next session.

Patients living in Columbus, GA, or the surrounding areas who have questions about the tattoo removal procedure should call our office or fill out our convenient online form, and a member of our staff will get back to you promptly.
