Turn Back the Clock with a Chemical Peel

A chemical peel is a non-surgical treatment that leaves skin looking younger and healthier. Many of our patients seek the rejuvenating benefits of this procedure to erase signs of aging on their hands, neck, and chest. If you are interested in this safe and effective cosmetic treatment,  the RNs and LDNs at Columbus Plastic Surgery are trained to talk about specific procedures and can make recommendations. We have served the LaGrange, Auburn, and Columbus, GA, communities since 1998.

Benefits of a Chemical Peel

Chemical peels are a versatile treatment for addressing skin blemishes. Whether you are seeking the treatment for purely cosmetic reasons or to address skin conditions and sun damage, this outpatient treatment can deliver dramatic results. The chemical peel procedure can:

  • Reduce fine lines
  • Treat sun damage
  • Reduce the prominence of mild scars
  • Treat certain types of acne
  • Address freckles, dark patches, and age spots
  • Leave skin looking younger and healthier

A chemical peel delivers significant results without the need for surgery. Under the care of Dr. Ashish K. Jain and Dr. Spencer R. Anderson, our board-certified plastic surgeons, this procedure has a very low risk of complications.

We are here to recommend the best solution for your needs.

Am I a Candidate?

Fair-skinned patients tend to be better candidates for chemical peels. If you have darker skin, a member of our team will discuss whether you can benefit from this procedure. Some individuals with dark skin may be at risk of developing an uneven skin tone after the procedure. Patients who are seeking treatment for mild skin-related issues like acne, sun damage, and dark patches are generally good candidates for a chemical peel.

If you have significantly lax skin, you may be a better candidate for a personalized facelift procedure. Dr. Jain and Dr. Anderson only do one of these procedures each day so that he can spend as much time as necessary to achieve the best results — sometimes up to eight hours. Our cosmetic surgery center offers a wide range of surgical and non-surgical treatments that can address your aesthetic goals. We are here to recommend the best solution for your needs.

Treatment Overview

Dr. Jain or Dr. Anderson may ask that you refrain from taking certain types of medications in the days and weeks leading up to your chemical peel. You may also be asked to apply certain medications to your skin as a means of preparing for your procedure. The depth of your peel will depend on the condition of your skin and your cosmetic goals. Your chemical peel will be performed at our state-of-the-art cosmetic surgery center.

First, your skin will be thoroughly cleaned. Then, a trained medical professional will apply one or more chemicals to targeted areas of your skin. The controlled wound that results from a chemical peel allows new skin to develop. Patients may experience a temporary burning sensation during the procedure. Cool compresses and pain medication can address this temporary discomfort following your procedure.

You will be given special recovery guidelines that are to be followed very closely. Patients should avoid sun exposure following their treatment. Mild swelling and blistering are common side effects that will subside in the days and weeks after undergoing a chemical peel. The degree of these side effects and the amount of time it takes to recover will depend on the strength of the treatment. For example, a deep peel could take two to three weeks of recovery time, while a light peel may only take one to seven days.
